Hasbro, Inc. is a toy company established in Pawtucket in the state of Rhode Island in the United States of America.

Hasbro has bought toy lines from other companies, such as the Monopoly themed board game, Play-Doh modeling compound, or Playskool educational toys.

Hasbro was founded by the three Herman brothers, Helal and Henry Hassenfeld in 1923, as "Hassenfeld Brothers", a textile company that later expanded into the school supplies market.

In the 1940s, the company began manufacturing its first toys - a line of doctor's kits. Their first most recognized toy was "Mr. Potato", invented by George Lerner in 1952. In 1964 the brothers produced toys under the license of G.I. Joe, entering the children's toy market.

In 1968, the company shortened its name by taking the first three letters of each word, in order to create a brand that was easier to recognize.

In 1984, Hasbro launched Toys: Transformers, which is currently one of the company's most successful franchises.

It continues with more board game acquisitions like Yahtzee, The Game of Life, Twister, and others.

In 1986 Hasbro buys Playskool and in 1991 Parker Brothers the creator of the renowned buy and sell simulation game Monopoly. Hasbro also bought in 1999 Wizards of the Coast and Avalon Hill, among others.
